About AERI
The Agricultural Engineering Research Institute (AERI) is one of the leading research institutes under the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), the research arm of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
As the country's principal institution for policy development and support, research, and technology development in agricultural engineering, the Institute plays a central role in advancing innovation, enhancing productivity, and promoting the sustainable development of Iran's agricultural sector.
With a highly qualified workforce of more than ۲۰۰ experienced professionals, including ۱۵۲ faculty members and researchers working across its headquarters in Karaj and ۲۱ provincial research centers, the Institute is committed to improving productivity, increasing resource-use efficiency, and ensuring the sustainable management of the nation's agricultural resources.==
Research Divisions
The Institute responds to the technological and engineering needs of the agricultural sector through five specialized research divisions:
Irrigation and Drainage Engineering
Agricultural Machinery Engineering and Mechanization
Food Engineering
Greenhouse Engineering
Smart Agriculture
Supported by a comprehensive network of reference laboratories, the Agricultural Engineering Technology Business Incubator (AETBI), and the Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Testing and Quality Control Center (AMETC), the Institute serves as a vital link in the agricultural innovation ecosystem and contributes to the transition toward a knowledge-based, technology-driven agricultural sector.
Laboratory Infrastructure and Technical Capabilities
One of the Institute's distinguishing strengths, at both the national and international levels, is its unique network of specialized reference laboratories, which provide testing, quality assurance, technical evaluation, and analytical services for the agricultural sector.
Irrigation and Soil Mechanics (۲ Labs)
Water and Soil Chemistry Laboratory
Soil Mechanics Laboratory
Agricultural Machinery and Biosystems (۴ Labs)
Soil Dynamics Laboratory
Biosystems Technology Laboratory
Bioenergy Laboratory
Oil Condition Monitoring Laborator
Food Engineering (۳ Labs)
Food Biophysics and Chemistry Laboratory
Microbiology Laboratory
Postharvest Technology Laboratory
Greenhouse Engineering (Instrumentation Workshop)
Instrumentation Workshop
The Greenhouse Engineering division operates a specialized instrumentation workshop for sensor calibration, data acquisition systems, and environmental monitoring equipment, rather than a conventional laboratory.
Testing, Certification, and Technical Services
In addition to its research activities, the Institute serves as the country's official authority for the testing, evaluation, and quality control of agricultural machinery and equipment through its Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Testing and Quality Control Center. The Center is responsible for issuing performance certificates and conducting conformity assessments for both domestically manufactured and imported agricultural machinery and equipment.
Leveraging its advanced research infrastructure and technical expertise, the Institute conducts strategic national research projects while providing high-quality laboratory, testing, certification, and technical services to private companies, manufacturers, innovators, and technology-based enterprises.
